Greetings Kindergarten Families!

THIS WEEK:

We will continue the theme: Fall Is Here!  Students will read about and discuss the weather in fall as well as activities done during the season.  We will also continue to learn about apples this week.  In language arts students will review the letters Ss, Mm, and Rr, as well as read a sight word book.  In math students will learn about color and shape patterns.  We will also compare coins, work on identifying the numbers 5 - 10, and practice counting. 

VOLUNTEERS:

Thank you to the many parents who offered their time as volunteers in our classroom and for special events like field trips.  I received volunteer forms last Thursday and will be in touch to schedule parent volunteers in our room.  We are still developing routines in our classroom as Title I and other staff members work in our classroom at various times during the day.  It is very important that we solidify daily routines, before adding parent volunteers into the mix.  I will contact you personally when we are in need of a special parent volunteer, and/ or when we are ready to begin having parents in on a weekly basis.  I look forward to having the extra set of hand, and I know my students will enjoy having special guests in our room.

CONFERENCES:

Parent –teacher conferences will be held at the end of the month.  I will be sending home reminder slips for those parents who sighed up for conferences on September 13, 2011 (Open House).  If you have not yet scheduled a time to meet with me, I will send home a form for you to complete and return in your child’s folder.  I will schedule conferences on a first come first serve basis.  As soon as you return the slip to me, I will return it with your conference date and time in your child’s folder. 

NO SCHOOL:

This is a reminder that there is no school on Friday, October 7, 2011 due to a professional development day.  There is also no school on Monday, October 10, 2011 in honor of Columbus Day.
