Can You Believe It's Almost November?

Greetings Kindergarten Families!

Friday’s trip to Wolfe’s Neck Farm was a huge success.  We had great weather, and a lot of fun exploring the barn, feeding the animals, and picking pumpkins.  Thank you to the parent chaperones who joined us. The number of parents who offered to help chaperone thrilled me, we were only able to invite three parents on this trip, but I will need additional chaperones for events throughout the year.

THIS WEEK:
We will wrap up the theme: Fall Is Here!  We will continue to read and write about autumn. Students will be introduces to the letter Pp and begin learning about syllables (parts of words).  Ask your child to clap the number of syllables in the names of members of your family.  In math students will review patterning, shapes, counting, and more.  In science we will wrap up our discussion of life cycles for the fall.

CONFERENCES:
Don’t miss your parent-teacher conference.  I look forward to meeting with all of you to discuss your child’s progress this year.

PICTURE RE-TAKES:
School pictures were sent home last week. If your child did not have their picture taken, or you would like to have your child re-take their school picture please complete the form that was sent home and send it to school in your child’s folder.  Picture re-takes will be done on November 1, 2011.

Wolfe's Neck Farm!

Feeding the hungry goats!
Everyone went inside the chicken coop to feel a freshly laid egg, and feed the chickens.

All the kids loved riding on the tractor.
Look at my Pumpkin!
This is a great pumpkin!
Miss Kristy helped us act out the life cycle of a pumpkin.
On Friday our class traveled to Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport.  Our class has been learning about pumpkins and this field trip was a great extension to what we have been learning at school.  We couldn't have asked for better weather, and we had a fantastic time!  We explored the barn, and got to pet and feed the many animals inside.  The tractor ride was a big hit, and everyone got to pick their own pumpkin in the field.  Thanks to the parents who joined us, and a BIG thank you to the farmers at Wolfe's Neck for making our visit such a huge success.  Here are some photos from our trip!

Guidance with Mrs. Brinkler

Every Thursday Mrs. Brinkler our Guidance Counselor visits our room and presents students with "challenges".  At the beginning of the school year students have been discussing communication skills.  Students have learned that good communication includes: giving eye contact, listening, not interrupting, and sitting still.  Last week, students began learning about nonverbal communication.  In these pictures students are demonstrating what nonverbal communication might look like if they were confused (picture 1), and if they were excited/happy to see someone (photo 2).

Red, yellow or green

Crunchy    Crisp   Sweet   Sour   Tart   Juicy   Hard   Red   Yellow   Green   Fresh!

Students voted for their favorite apple and we created an Apple Graph.  Take a look!
